Russia is adeptly playing on nationalist sentiments in European societies and stoking them, according to the American think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW). The Zakarpattia Oblast borders Poland from the side of the Bieszczady Mountains.

The Mi Hazank party entered the Hungarian parliament. “Russian sources have amplified Toroczkai’s and Tarziu’s statements, and also highlighted these extremely nationalist claims,” emphasizes ISW, and reminds that as early as before 2022 Russia proposed dividing Ukraine between Russia and the West.

According to US analysts, the goal is as usual—to drive a wedge between Ukraine and the West, divide and rule, skillfully playing on societal sentiments.
